Why Drinking With a Straw Does Not Protect Your TeethMany people believe that when they drink from a straw their teeth will not discolor. Avoiding food and drinking stains is more complicated than just drinking with a straw. , Many will position the straw in a way that even if they drink using it the liquid they are taking does not touch their teeth. Despite doing this in one way or the other the tongue will come into contact with the liquids. Sugar deposits stick to the tongue and many other particles. Later on, the sugar and the particles are transferred later to teeth and may from plaque if deposited and accumulate leading to tooth decay or even tooth loss

Drink plenty of water

To avoid discoloration and formation of stains on your teeth all you need to do is drink plenty of water. Drinking with a straw will not help anything. Water flushes the sugar and particles that might be deposited on the tongue as well as in between the teeth. Avoid intake of dark drinks like coffee or sodas for they will discolor the teeth ensure that you visit the dental hygienist and the dentist regularly for cleaning and checkup.

Brushing and Flossing

Brushing and flossing the teeth is a way that you cannot forget. By regularly brushing the teeth you can remove all the food particles that are on your teeth. Flossing is important too for it eliminates the food particles in between your teeth. It avoids the formation f plaque at tartar which can cause teeth decaying, discoloration, and even tooth loss.

If your teeth are already stained, talk to the dentist and they might advise on a whitening procedure. Using the straw will not help to avoid the stain even after whitening. The dentist will teach you what to eat and drink to avoid stains.
